Maltipoos

A Maltipoo is a confusing name for what is simply a Maltese poodle. These adorable dogs are a cross between two toy breeds, the miniature poodle and the Maltese. The result is Maltipoos; some of the most adorable hybrid breed dogs that you could come across.

In recent years there have been an increasing number of individuals who prefer cross bred dogs, or hybrid dogs, to purebred pedigrees. The Maltese poodle is one of the more popular cross breeds due to its adorable appearance, intelligence, and overall sound temperament. There are many reasons that these dogs have become popular, and they just might be your ideal companion.

Size

Most Maltipoos grow to be about the size of a Maltese. However not all Maltipoos are half Maltese and half poodle. Some Maltipoos might be half Maltese and half Maltese poodle. Dogs with more cross breeding might be on the smaller size. Whatever the dog’s origins you will find that these dogs are quite small and make the perfect companion for anyone living in an apartment or in a home where there is no space for a big dog.

Coloring

Maltipoos come in many different colors and their coats can often have many different shades. This is because miniature poodles come in many different colors, such as cream, black, white, brown, and apricot. The Maltese on the other hand has a white coat, the resulting mix of the breeds mean that you could have a very interestingly colored puppy.

There is no breed standard for the appearance of your Maltese poodle so you can easily find a puppy that suits your tastes. The dogs often have patches of colors rather than a uniform color, so if this is something you would prefer than this is the perfect breed for you.

Most Maltipoos are hypoallergenic; they are also a non shedding type of dog. This can be perfect if you or members of your family have certain allergies. However the Maltese poodle does need constant grooming as its coat grows continuously. The fur on its coat is mostly straight, and it lends to a fluffy appearance that most of the dogs have. You might want to have your Maltipoos’ fur kept short in a puppy cut. This makes for easier maintenance and can help keep matted fur away.

Temperament

Both the Maltese and the miniature poodle are intelligent dogs. This means that you can be sure that your Maltipoos are also very intelligent dogs. This makes training easier as well as their companionship very amusing. While it is true that these dogs can be prone to a little overexcitement and barking, this is mainly due to boredom.

The best way to keep your pet well behaved and your house quiet is to train your dog well to keep it occupied. Boredom can be averted with some attention, and toys. These dogs don’t like to be left alone for long periods of time so keep that in mind if you are at work for long hours or travel often.

Socializing them early is also important so that they get along well with people who visit your home and other household pets. It is possible for your Maltipoos to get along with cats if you already have a feline companion. The key here is socialization and making sure that your dog learns early what it can and cannot do with other animals.

These dogs can be a little timid and are not the best pet for a household with young children. Young children can often be boisterous without intending to and this may not be the best environment for your Maltipoos. If your children are a little older and can clearly understand how to be gentle to your little Maltese poodle then you can rest assured that this dog will make a wonderful companion for your children.

Overall these dogs have a very good temperament and are a great choice as a family pet. If you don’t mind the grooming expense and would like to have these adorable dogs in your home then look for a good breeder. Maltipoos are a registered breed with the American Canine Hybrid Club; you may be able to find reliable and reputable breeders through this association.
