How do you stop a standard poodle puppy almost 1yr from eating my almost 11yr old black lab retriever's poop?

Not sure if she is eating her own but definitely eating my other dogs. She is fed twice a day - I do not think she is hungry. Tried pouring red hot sauce on it she ran away but can't ususally be there. My husband wants to hit her in the ass with a bb gun to scare her (family doesn't think that will work)
Both dogs are in a fenced in yard during the day
Would you add something to your dogs food? We are not there to spray or add to poop

dogs eat poop because it smells like their food. Contrary to popular belief dogs taste is really poor, but their sense of smell is what helps them figure out what is food and what isn't. Therefore dogs eat their poop because it smells good, not tastes good. You can purchase a product from the pet store that will make the poop smell bad to you dog. Good luck

Just let it eat the poop. If poodle gets ill, take it to the vet. Maybe there is nourishment in the other dog's dooo. Odd problem though

1) keep her on leash and pull her away if she tries to eat it

2) get a pooper scooper and clean it up right away so your dog can't get it

We have this problem with our Westie. We supervise her, use a shake can to make noise when she goes close to some poop and pick up all the poop from both of our dogs ASAP. The shake can has been very effective and we are now at the point where a "leave it" will stop her if she looks like she is going to start. I have read that this is normal behavior in wolves- they clean their dens by eating the puppy poop . Diligence. The BB gun is NOT a good idea.

This is the nature of dogs. Most dogs outgrow it eventually. It is disgusting, but the reason for it is that it smells like their food. You can try teaching the dog to 'leave it' by just saying that every time they go for it and pulling their leash- but chances are when you are not there it will happen anyway. Just live with it and no big lickery kisses til she stops!

do not hit her with a bb gun my dog lily does the same thing you just got to live with it or maybe make one of the dogs a play erea out of chiken wire that might help

You should go to the pet store and buy the anti-coprophagia additive to put on both your dogs' food. This will make both dogs' poop taste bad and she won't want to eat it anymore.

Add meat tenderizer to the lab's food and it will make the poodle not eat it's poop.

VKB is right. Get the additive from the pet store. It's cheap, easy, and effective. My guess is that it will only take a few weeks of using the stuff you add to the food to solve the problem, and like somebody else said, the puppy will outgrow it. You can't be there all the time to try and train it to stay away from poop, so the inconsistency will make the training aspect probably fail. Use the stuff from the pet store, as you don't really know what's in the meat tenderizer and you don't want to give your dog too much sodium.

I agree with the additive that you can get at the pet store. Also, sometimes dogs eat other dog's poop because they may be lacking in nutrients/vitamins. What kind of food is your dog eating? While at the pet store, ask an associate for a higher quality brand, which may have more in it for puppy. Good Luck!

I was once told that dogs do this because of a lack of a vitamin ( K ) i think but I don't know how true this is mind , but it might be worth asking the vet maybe you could just ring up good luck
