How do I get my new puppy to stop humping?
My 8 month old male white and black chihuahua who I just got yesturday won't stop trying to hump my femal tea cup poodle. My male is neuturded already and hes 8 months and he just got here yesturday and our female is 4 years, and he has bears that he can hump and everytime he trys to hump my female we spank him on his but and firmly tell him no and plus my dog goes and bits him cause its her house. annd she doesnt like that. and we also have a tea cup 1 year old chihuahua, and she keeps messing with him and letting him hump her cause she is a little tease. And its not helping anything. and he keeps trying to hump our other male who is 4 years and he is a miniature pincher. the tea cup chihua and the mini pincher are leaving next sunday should i keep my new puppy or take him back, and how do i get him to stop humping. I know hes still a puppy and its instinct but he could hurt out tea cup poodle cause shes really small compared to him he is 8 months but he is pure breed chihuahua and he is huge. compared to her., how do i get him to stop.?
Get him neutered when he is old enough. The absence of testosterone will stop that behavior in about 40-50% of dogs.
If it doesn't work you will need to turn to training instead. Correcting a dog in a harsh manner for humping is not necessary and can create problems worse than the humping. Work with the dog to develop several behaviors the dog will perform on cue, such as sit, down, come, fetch, go to a spot and settle calmly, go find a toy to chew, and any trick the dog enjoys doing for a reward.
The list of alternative behaviors can be endless. Vary which behavior you cue as a distraction from humping. This keeps your intervention interesting for the dog, and helps avoid encouraging new obsessions.

i have the same problem .
an 8 year old mutt ( boxer mix ) about 70 pounds !
a 2 year old mutt ( beagle/lab) about 30-40 pounds.
so the little lab mix always trys to hump thebigger dog. shes old and doesnt really care but sometimes she pushes her off. the best thing to do is to take her off and tell her sternly no. that way she knows its wrong. hopefully after time she'll learn to stop.

my cousin had her puppy fixed and he really went nuts humping everything and the vet told us that its due his hormones being all mixed up do to the just being fixed part and that it would go away.
And they told her if he don't stop after a week to bring him in.So i would say smack him and tell him no and see if that will work! good luck on the puppies!

Never "spank" your dog! Humping can be a dominance issue. Make a loud high-pitched noise to get his attention then say a command like "ahh-ahh" or "stop", be firm but then reward good behavior with a treat, toys, or praise. If you keep doing this he should stop.

Inappropriate mounting is not always resolved by neutering. "Mounting behavior often has roots in the expression of dominance and may be expressed by a neutered male in a variety of circumstances that are not motivated by sexuality."
"The interest in roaming is eliminated in 90% of neutered dogs. Aggressive behavior against other male dogs is eliminated in 60% of neutered dogs. Urine marking is eliminated in 50% of neutered male dogs. Inappropriate mounting is eliminated in 70% of neutered dogs."
So your dog is probably one of the 30% that doesn't quit humping after being neutered. Also, a male dog who is neutered will still be sexually aroused by a female in heat, so if your female dogs are not spayed, you may want to get them spayed.
Also, he is a new dog in the house, so he is probably trying to assert dominance over the other dogs.

Go to your local pet store and buy this lemon scented spray. Dogs hate the smell and will immediately leave back off. It will not only teach him how to stop humping, but the dog is letting him hump.

First of all, Chihuahua's are known to be nasty. I don't know if you have taken him to the vet for all of the necessary shots yet. There are ways to get that behavior under control, but hitting is not the way. It will only make him worse. I know it's just on the rear, but that can lead to other tempermant issues. Ask yourself if you have the time and money to dedicate to training this dog. I have found some trainers or rescue missions that dedicate their time to helping people get their dogs under control so that they stay with a good home and don't get branded a "bad dog" and passed off to someone who will not give the dog the care it needs. From what you are saying this poor dog is not feeling really welcomed in your house. You may wan't to find a good home for this dog as soon as possible if he is not a good fit. Also sounds like you have two other dogs that will give this little 8 week old a hard time. I had a miniature pincher once and after 8 months she still was not happy sharing her place with our pekinese. Sadly, she had a aneurism and passed. Best of luck with your decisions.
